SANITATION AT PATHARCHAPURI MELA

DESCRIPTION :

Every year, a Fair called "Data Saheber Mela" is held in the month of Chaitra (March-April) in Patharchapuri Village, Suri to commemorate the death anniversary of the famous muslim saint named Hazrat Data Meheboob Shah Wali famously known as "Data-Baba". During this week long fair, lakhs od people congregate at the tomb of Data Baba to pay obeisance from different parts of the country. At the end of the fair, the 1 sq. KM of area that houses the fair and area surrounding the tomb is left cluttered almost converting it inti a waste dumping ground! Around 200 sevadals from Samithis of Birbhum district come together to clean the area spanning around 1.5sq KM including the sewage drain, pond, public toilets ans urinals for 2 days from morning till 9 pm in the evening.
