REPAIRING ROAD TO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY

DESCRIPTION :

The condition of almost all the motorable roads leading to tea gardens and bustees around Darjeeling is not good. In view of this long standing problem faced by the villagers, Darjeeling District (North) has taken up a project to repair one such road every year on Independence Day. This year the work was done at 6th Mile – Tukdah Road. This road is the main link road for over half-a-dozen tea gardens. The complete stretch of 10 kms was repaired with stone boulders, sand and soil filling. Fifteen pick-up loads of stone boulders were purchased from local suppliers. The work lasted for about five hours with a break at 1 P.M. for lunch.
